Mubashshir Ahmed ("we", "us", "our") built ScanZest as a productivity app for scanning, organising, and exporting documents. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and what choices you have. By using ScanZest you agree to this policy.
All scanning, OCR text recognition, and document processing happen entirely on your device. We do not have access to your scanned documents unless you explicitly enable cloud backup (see §1b). Locally stored data includes:
If you subscribe to ScanZest Pro and enable cloud backup, your documents are encrypted on your device using AES-256 before being transmitted to our servers. We store these encrypted backups solely to allow you to restore your library if you switch devices or reinstall the app. Backups are retained for 30 days after your Pro subscription ends, then permanently deleted.
When you use AI tools (Ask, Extract, Translate), the text extracted from the relevant page is sent to an AI processing service to generate a response. This text is not stored beyond the duration of the request and is not used to train AI models. We do not send raw document images to AI services — only the extracted text.
In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store) and managed via RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your subscription status (active/inactive) but never your payment card details. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.
The app may collect anonymous crash reports and basic diagnostic information (device model, OS version, app version) to help us identify and fix bugs. This data contains no personal information and no document content.
ScanZest requests access to your camera to scan documents and to your photo library to import existing images. This access is used solely within the app to create scans — images are never uploaded without your explicit action. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.
If you use Siri shortcuts to start a scan or open a recent document, ScanZest only processes the voice intent required to perform the action. No voice audio is stored by ScanZest.
ScanZest is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Documents uploaded as part of cloud backup are encrypted end-to-end with AES-256 before leaving your device. We use industry-standard security practices to protect data in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest. No system can guarantee absolute security, and we encourage you to keep your device up-to-date and protected with a passcode.
Local data is kept on your device until you delete individual documents or uninstall the app. Cloud backup data is retained for 30 days after your Pro subscription ends, then permanently and irrecoverably deleted from our servers. To request immediate deletion of your cloud backup, contact us at the address below and we will action it within 7 days.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold about you, the right to restrict or object to processing, and the right to data portability. Because ScanZest processes almost no personal data, the practical scope of these rights is limited. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in §10.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For significant changes we will attempt to provide in-app notice.
